Asphalt core dam for the Nemischau-1 dam in Quebeck, Canada.

Kolo Veidekke is through its Canadian subsidiary Entreprises Kolo Veidekke Québec and in co-operation with Pavex Ltee building the asphalt core for the Nemiscau-1 dam. The small dam is part of the Eastmain-1 Hydroelectric Development which includes many dams or dikes. One of the smaller dikes, the Nemiscau-1 was redesigned from moraine/clay-core to central asphalt core as Hydro Québec wanted to test out this method in practice before deciding on the design for new upcoming projects where clay or moraine is not readily available.

Kolo Veidekke has during the preliminary stages participated as advisor for the project before being awarded the contract for construction.

Project description
The dam is 15m high with a crest length of approximately 310m and the core will be constructed on top of a concrete plinth.

A small modern batch plant will be established near the dam.
