// Veidekke's economic performance

Veidekke's decentralised organisation contributes to spreading the value creation within the districts. In 2008, Veidekke had a total value creation in Norway of BNOK 8.7. Total tax contribution was BNOK 4.0.

The building and construction industry is local in character. A tunnel or residential complex cannot be manufactured in a factory and then transported to the place of use, but must, to a large degree, be constructed on site by local labour. Veidekke's decentralised organisation gives regional operations a large degree of freedom to choose their own partners in the building process. As a result, substantial funds are spread within the districts and help to secure the economic basis of local suppliers.

Total value creation in Norway of BNOK 8.7

Our industry is fundamentally a provincial one which contributes to activity and economic development far away from the central areas. In order to translate this value creation into numbers, we have applied the social accounting model developed by the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) on the figures for 2008. This shows that Veidekke has a total value creation in Norway of BNOK 8.7, and a total tax contribution of BNOK 4.0 (including Norwegian subcontractors). This corresponds to the value of, for instance, 40,000 municipal day-care places. Veidekke employs 4,778 full-time equivalents (FTEs), which in turn generates 8,806 FTEs in Norwegian subcontracting firms. All in all, this amounts to 13,584 FTEs – with a total of BNOK 4.2 in wages and salaries.

All in all, Veidekke spent BNOK 14.5 on purchases of goods and services 2008. This breaks down into BNOK 11 in Norway, BNOK 2 in Sweden and BNOK 1.5 in Denmark.
