Veidekke to build passive house school in Oslo for NOK 270 million

Undervisningsbygg has entered into a contract with Veidekke Entreprenør to build the new Bjørnsletta School in Oslo. This is a pilot project in the so-called "FutureBuilt" programme, where the school will be built in accordance with the passive house standard and is intended to contribute toward a good city environment. The value of the contract is NOK 270 million excluding VAT.

"Demolition of the former Bjørnsletta School starts this month. The new 1-10 school is to be completed by August 2014 and will have a floor area of more than 10,000 sqm. We at Veidekke Entreprenør feel that participating in a FutureBuilt project with stringent environmental requirements is exciting and challenging, and we look forward to getting started," says Hans Olav Sørlie, district manager with Veidekke.

"FutureBuilt requires that one reduces the use of cars, and the school is centrally located close to the Metro and other public transport. The goal is that the school will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 per cent compared to current practices. The new school will to the furthest possible extent use climate-efficient building materials. In 2014 the school will accept 790 pupils and will adhere to universal design principles," says head of section Arnt Egil Berge with Undervisningsbygg.
