Veidekke to build student bedsits with environmental profile in Ås

SIÅS, The University Foundation for Student Life in Ås, has awarded Veidekke Entreprenør the contract to build two blocks with a total of 254 bedsits for students at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. The value of the contract is NOK 104 million excluding VAT.

There is a great need for student bedsits at universities and university colleges in Norway. In Ås, the University Foundation for Student Life has planned a major development of a total of 500-600 bedsits in the next years. These will be located in the Pentagon student town a short distance from the university, student union and the centre of Ås.

The two blocks Veidekke will build are planned as an environmental project with passive house standard, on condition that support from Enova is forthcoming. The blocks will be eight storeys in height and will be built with a load-bearing structure of solid wood. The concept has been developed by the company 5b Prosjekt AS in close cooperation with Trebruk AS, which is supported by a wood-based innovation programme at Innovation Norway.

Building will start in August 2012 with completion for the start of the autumn 2013 term.
