Veidekke to secure FV 572 in Ulvik

The Public Roads Administration has contracted Veidekke Entreprenør AS to secure the most exposed stretch of the FV 572, between Bruravik and Ulvik in Hardanger, against avalanches and landslides. The contract is worth NOK 136 million excluding VAT.

The project involves planning and constructing 710 metres of new road in the open and a 709 metre tunnel, including electrical systems and safety equipment in the tunnel. This will protect motorists from avalanches and minimise the time the road is closed because of avalanches. The 1.5 km stretch includes Eddegjelet and Torgilsberget, which are the two worst avalanche points on the county road between Bruravik and Ulvik.

Work has already started and the new road will be ready for use in October 2013.
